🔄 Reconnect Recap for w/e 1st December '24
Connecting you to even more great games writing
Holy F&^$k its December.
Which brings us to one of the last Reconnect Recaps for 2024, the Christmas Eve of Reconnect, the games writing discovery platform.
Its been a week to be Thankful, however, here in NZ we don’t celebrate that holiday, and whilst I’m extremely thankful for the Steam Sale, i’m not very thankful for the amount of Black Friday spam that has been filling my inbox for the last twenty something days.
But on a positive note, let’s look at the articles this week, I’m thankful for.
If you’re on Bluesky, I’ve made a starter pack so that you can follow all the Reconnect writers in one spot. Not 100% complete yet but I’ll keep adding to it.

The Recap
This week i’m starting with virtual reality.
brings us a look at a way to play Halo fully in VR, and brings us an interesting piece on how machine learning and getting data from your nervous system can improve the virtual experience. As someone who gets motion sick looking at a VR headset, this could be a game changer for me, or my crippling anxiety would made the headset explode 🤯.Next up, i’m going to share a double set of doubles, that either a poker reference or a tennis reference, and I don’t know neither.
Classic Game revival brings us the Top 50 Atari ST games and 5 best ZX Spectrum Emulators.
Meanwhile, GameWisdom, digs deep into how social features have added an extra zhuzh to the modern gaming landscape, and a helpful guide on what to do if you’re stuck in a game.
over at Press Any Button, walks us through why an AI chat bot might not be a useful game guide companion for when you’re struggling in a game, and talks about the tricky task of localizing a game, spoiler alert, its really really hard. gives us their list of Thanksgiving games to play with the family, whilst SuperJump Magazine, give us the best indie games to play on your PS5.And finally, in the category of things i’m not sure people were asking for, 8BitDo is releasing an Xbox themed mechanical keyboard, and KFC is releasing a Chicken Drumstick Tamagotchi. Okay I lied, I might actually want the Keyboard.
Hope you have a great start to your December, and I’ll be back in a week!
Something Extra
36 years after the first Madden game was released, EA have given us a behind the scenes documentary on how the game came to be and how they are made, available on a streaming platform near you, probably.
Writer Recap
This week i’m shouting out SuperJump Magazine, an online video game magazine which features a variety of articles from a variety of writers, in fact they are where I started writing.
SuperJump’s ethos is very much aligned with my own, I don’t want to read scored reviews and the latest news. I want to read deep think pieces, and obscure love letters, and that’s been the bread and butter of SuperJump for years. They were one of the inspirations for me making Reconnect, and were one of the first sites on there.
I recommend you check them out, follow on socials, and subscribe to their newsletter.
That keyboard looks nice. But I have a horrible streak with mechanical keyboards. I love them, but mine start malfunctioning with ghost typing or dead keys after a year or two.
Superjump looks interesting. The lead story is about Mouthwashing!
