๐ Reconnect Recap for w/e 10th November '24
Connecting you to even more great games writing
Welcome to yet another issue of the Reconnect Recap, the companion newsletter to Reconnect, the games writing discovery platform.
Its certainly been a stressful week, and thereโs really not much I can say to make any of that easier, but I hope I can bring you some fun things to take your mind off maters for a few minutes at least.
Reminder, we have our own Discord community with the hopes of getting writers and fans of games writing chatting and connecting, if youโre interested jump in and say hi.
Time to be distracted!
The Recap
This week weโre starting with Nintendo, because I felt like every second thing I read this week was about Nintendo (when it wasnโt about the election).
Obviously there was news about backwards compatibility and their music app, but no one wants to read about them.
Instead, someone got Doom running on the Alarmo (RetroDodo), because of course they did.
looks into the surprise success of many of the failed Wii Uโs games because they got ported to the Switch.Itโs a well known thing that Nintendo has a black book of companies / influencers they donโt deal with. They fall out with more people than a teenager in the popular group at school. Amazon has been in the dog box for some time now, but Overkill seems to think that Nintendo is giving them another chance.
Sticking with the theme of older consoles, we now turn to SEGA - did you know the name means SErvice GAmesโฆ? This week Shadow the Hedgehog presented the weather, which was not something I had on my 2024 Bingo card (RetroDodo).
Despite the fact that the Sega Genesis was released 35 years ago, there are so many games for it, and still new ones coming out, that some clever individual made a website to track them all, I do love when someone makes a website to help others ๐ (TimeExtension).
One of my favorite articles of the week, mainly because I love Gwent, was all about the ways to make the perfect mini game (
). In a similar vein, gave a great explanation about the balancing act of a providing good in game tutorials.Player2 dives into the question weโve all been asking, why are farming games so addictive, and The Game Discover Co tries to answer an even harder hitting question, why donโt wishlists always convert to sales (
).With so many questions answered I just need someone to give me the winning lottery numbers and Iโm all set.
Carry on reading for some extra fun stuff below, and Iโll be back next week.
Something Extra
Macho Nacho Productions is a YouTube channel dedicated to making or showing you some of the best retro console mods, ranging from an all aluminum switch lite to a gameboy that looks like the playdate, and the above video of an all digital PS2 no bigger than a power brick.

Gamers come in all shapes and sizes, but how about someone with a PhD in cancer genetics?
Well, let me introduce you to
who mixes games and science for their writing. They cut through scientific jargon to break things down into easy to understand pieces for us mere mortals. They also give their views on games, science and how games are used in scientific research.
Go give them a follow.
Another nice roundup of game Articles that aren't the usual stuff, plus a shout-out to InGameScientist's great Substack.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed my text! Thanks for sharing so many interesting links to read, though Iโll need to extend todayโs coffee break for them! :D
