🔄 Reconnect Recap for w/e 3rd November '24
Connecting you to even more great games writing
Welcome to the Reconnect Recap, the rejected power puff girl of Reconnect, the games writing discovery platform.
This week we launched our own Discord community with the hopes of getting writers and fans of games writing chatting and connecting, if you’re interested jump in and say hi.
But if that’s not your speed, you’ve still got this newsletter, where I bring you the best articles to appear on the site in the past week, plus some extra fun stuff you might enjoy.
Let’s dig in.
The Recap
Given it’s still kinda the spooky season, I got reading about how Horror Film Producer Blumhouse is moving into making games (
) and going the other way how the Resident Evil & Monster Hunter Director is making a horror film (TimeExtension).Talking of Monster Hunter, according to Overkill, over half a million players have downloaded and played the demo for the new Monster Hunter Game.
Keeping in the realm of statistics,
over at GameDev Reports, walks us through every single best selling game per year, in the US, for the 21st Century, guess which franchises hold multiple top spots?Jumping back into the Time Machine, we have a thousand words on the infamous Final Fantasy 13 by No Escape and Big Nerd Gaming, gives us their top 10 PS1 games that I didn’t agree with one bit, but hey its an opinion.
Also we have a funny story about how the mastermind behind Doom, Wolfenstein, and Quake was banned from buying a Ferrari (TimeExtension).
Going from old to young, Push to Talk introduces us to the 19 year old who just beat a speed running world record.
And finally, something very topical to the newsletter, Gamer by Mistake has a guide on how to start a gaming blog.
That’s all for the week, thanks team, hope you have a wonderful week.
Something Extra
Valve has approached the steam deck with a level of openness, not just about the operating system, but also its hardware. Anyone who owns a device can see what parts are in their device and where they came from.
This allowed an experienced engineer to fabricate their own steam deck, by acquiring the parts individually.
Writer Recap
This week we’re featuring the publication, Adventures in Indie Gaming by
& . As the title suggests, they are an indie game focussed newsletter who thanks to the Steam Next Fest are in their busy season trying to get through as many indie goodies as they can. If Indies are your jam, this might be your peanut butter.
Thanks for the great round up!!
John Romero getting banned by Ferrari might be the most John Romero thing ever lmao
