Reconnect Recap, w/e 3rd March - This week was a Monolith
Connecting you to incredible games writing.
Kia Ora folks!
I’m all moved into my new place. It’s been a long week of moving heavy boxes and trying to figure out which of my 86 kitchen cabinets the spatula’s should go in.
Of note, for me, is that I have a vastly better office in this new place. Whilst I wish I could say that this new office will increase the quality of my writing and output this year, I sadly don’t believe in lying to my readers 🤣.
Talking of you lovely readers, you didn’t come here to listen to me talk about my new desk setup, you came to read about all the great articles to be featured, in the past week, on Reconnect, the games writing discovery platform.
Without further ado, let’s get into it!
If you’re on Bluesky, I’ve made a starter pack so that you can follow all the Reconnect writers in one spot. Not 100% complete yet but I’ll keep adding to it.
The Recap
- honors recently closed, Monolith Productions, by giving us an in-depth overview of Monolith’s games and what they meant to them. A really well put together and informed history of the studio in my opinion.
Games that Weren’t shows off a 90’s Ubi Soft (not a typo) game that was canceled before release that involved monkeys and lumberjacks.
- explains why Augmented Reality in Museums is a cool idea on paper, but not quite in reality, and what needs to be overcome to make it a success.
Gaming On Linux, tells us about a game whose price changes every hour according to the weather in a certain city and what happens if the tempurature hits 0 degrees.
- reminisces about their childhood love of Pokemon and how they got their young daughter hooked on collecting the cards. I’m not sure whether that is genius or bad-parenting. The jury’s still out on that one. 😆
Game-Wisdom gives us an overview of the key trends owners of Online Casinos will be considering this year.
- covers off this months family friendly game releases. I don’t have a family of my own, but my boyfriend and I are going to be playing the shit out of Split Fiction, that is when we have finished tending to our farm in Stardew.
Retro Dodo reviews ten Anbernic retro handhelds and tells you which one to get in 2025.
- tells us why we really should give Quantum Break another shot in 2025. I feel like many people are playing this game and realizing it slaps.
Gaming On Linux, shows off a cool new accessory for the Steam Deck that doubles as both stand and cover.
- explains how traditionally physical toy makers are blurring the line with digital gaming products as many of the major toy makers rake in billions of dollars in revenue.
TimeExtension shows off an exciting home-brew modification for the SEGA Genesis that will allow developers to release new games on the Console with features the Genesis never could facilitate.
- discusses the ever present issue about games preservation and offers their take on a solution.
Something Extra
Yeah, I know it’s not video game related, though fun idea to play around with might be what a Severance video game might look like. However, they have released a Severance eight hour ‘Music to Refine to” and i’m loving it. Listening to it as I write this.
Writer Recap
This week I want to shout out
