When I started Reconnect, it was because games writing was in such a downturn.
Nearly all professional outlets were being shuttered and I was struggling to find active blogs.
I started with a handful and as I built reconnect, I built it with some certain limitations in mind.
Now as the platform gets close to hosting nearly 300 blogs and over 18,000 articles it’s starting to feel like it’s clothes are getting too small.
Some examples, I’ve noticed are:
Each page shows 25 articles, on a busy day where we get over 100 new articles come in, that means new articles are sometimes buried 4 or 5 pages deep, harming discoverability.
Lack of filtering. Plenty of blogs have their niche, whilst some are more generalist, I’d like to reflect that to the user so they can quickly see the sort of content they are interested in. Similarly, their are some blogs that post a high volume of content in a single day, vs others who post a few times a week, I’d like to give the user the chance to filter on that.
With each major upgrade, Reconnect has had 2 so far, I like to rebuild the UI and the theme so a lot of my focus will be on that, but if you use the site and you have some ideas let me know and I’ll take them into consideration.
Now, not everything will be feasible, some ideas might be beyond my capabilities, or the capabilities of the hosting platform or framework, or simply can’t be automated.
But feel free to throw your two cents in and I'd be excited to add them to my rebuild plan.
I don't have any suggestions (which I know isn't helpful and I'm sorry about that), but I'm just grateful you're doing this.
Thanks so much, Alex!
Perhaps a spotlight on the front page of a new connection or a blog of the month type thing for more exposure?
