Great point!

I still wonder how far away we are though from not needing consoles and just streaming content? Likely another 10 years or so. Maybe sooner?

And I'd also happily witness your marriage to your Steam Deck. I'm sure it would be beautiful, and if streamed would only be available in 720p.

Oh my, I hope not. Streaming games would put all the power with major publishers and whoever can afford the infrastructure. We'd be in a gaming world run by Amazon and Netflix. Indies would be squeezed out, as they already are with rent-farm Gamepass.

Omg when you said you’d marry your Steamdeck…reminds me of when I got my e-bike about 7 years ago and I said the exact same thing! 😝😝😝

Yeah, 4K in particular is a problem. It's too demanding yet only delivers a truly different experience when you add other features such as HDR. And even then, I don't think the jump in fidelity is worth the work going into it.

I did not understand the Switch x Sony reference :3

But I would also marry a device that cost the same as a mid range laptop. And I think it's a testament to the power of mobile play that people would pay so much for such a device versus simply buying a laptop. Though arguably, a laptop for $700 probably isnt a high performing gaming device while the Steam Deck is.

This was very interesting to read! I feel bad for developers. I hadnt realized how many platforms there were for games to appear on and be developed for. I just normally want all indie games to go to Switch instead of just Steam since I barely do any PC gaming at all. But I love my Switch.

I agree with your perspective on the hardware issue...and I think, maybe sooner rather than later, the desktop dinosaurs will be left behind (I'm one of them, still playing from my PC) as the handhelds become more powerful.
