🔄 Reconnect Recap for w/e 29th September '24
Connecting you to even more great games writing
Welcome all to yet another issue of the Reconnect Recap.
It’s been a surprisingly exciting week in the world of games, just when I thought we were heading into a quiet season, it’s literally raining video games.
For one the State of Play showed of Yotei which have to be the most prettiest gameplay i’ve ever seen in my life, I want every single one of the stills from that trailer as wallpaper, and for those in the know, I would pay $50 a year for those wallpapers. 🤣
The Recap
This week I’m diving into my favorite topic, gaming handheld hardware, and I’ve got so many great articles to share.
Starting off we’ve got Alex Rowe talking about how all these amazing handhelds are the future of gaming. Then we’ve got one of the most popular articles on the site this week by 1UpVault covering how we went from Switch to SteamDeck.
Heading into handhelds way older than the Switch, we’ve got Retro Arcadia taking a walk down memory lane, reminiscing their youth with handheld gaming devices by Grandstand. Then we have TimeExtension reviewing the new retro portable MSX0 Stack, and finally RetroDodo with a huge in-depth think piece on the current state o reviewing retro handhelds.
Swinging back to actual video games, Big Nerd Gaming, gives their their thoughts on AstroBot:
For some people, this was a trip down memory lane that brought endless joy as they remembered times with their favorite franchises that are long gone. For others, and I imagine a lot of kids in particular, this will be a game that lives with them well into adulthood.
SuperJump Magazine published an amazing article about challenging the feminine stereotype in video games, they break down the history, and some games you might want to check out. If you love the article and live in Victoria AU, they are running an exhibition at Melbourne International Games Week.
Something Extra
For Starfield fans out there, all 30 of you (I’m one of you!), Yeah Nah Gaming has news on an animated anthology episode that’s available for you to watch ahead of the launch of Shattered Space.
