Hey Friends!
My addiction to bullet-heaven games has reached a new peak as I’m now duel weilding Terra Tech Legion on my Xbox Ally X and then playing Deep Rock Galactic Survivor on my iPad, just need to figure out if I can get Vampire Survivors to run on my smart fridge then my life will be complete.
If you are new here, the Reconnect Recap is the companion newsletter for my website, Reconnect, the only website that aggregates articles from nearly 300 different gaming blogs. Whilst the website updates multiple times of day and houses tens of thousands of articles, this newsletter provides a weekly update highlighting some of the stand outs from the week that’s been.
This week, we’re talking about lot about criticism, getting some behind the scenes info, game conferences, and much much more.
Let’s dig in!

Great Write Ups
Narrative Patterns: Azhdarchid covers some common narrative design patterns used by Storylets (I learned a new word)
Punching Down: Criticism is easy to create, everyone and their dog has opinions on video games, despite it being one of the hardest artistic mediums, so Big Nerd Gaming asks the question, should we ease up on criticism of Indies?
How the sausage is made: With all this noise about the end of physical game discs, Stephen Totilo explains the exact process for getting a game on a disc.
How the sausage is ruined: Game Production Alchemist points out that in their career, a game was never delayed because of the people on the tools not being fast enough, it’s always due to the disconnect from management.
Just get good: Circling back to asinine criticism, Cat dives into the often repeated statement “Just make a good game” and why it’s not as clear cut as that.
Lost Ambience: Critical Play by D4VID0 talks about magic of ambient music we seem to have lost in games.
What not to do: GCG's Newsletter is all about Game Conferences, and their latest article is all about what not to do at a conference, and I was disappointed to see “Scream Leeroy Jenkins” was not on the list.
Between a rock and skilled player: The Game Enjoyer dives into the phenomenon where ranked games over time alienate new and growing players.
Consequences Consequences: Maurice Klimek offers a better way for games to provide meaningful choices to gamers.
Blind spot: Why hasn’t Mario Kart World gotten DLC and live-service support asks Harrison Polites. Is this Nintendos biggest squandered opportunity? No that was not supporting Animal crossing.
Deleting the problem: Jake Steinberg has some cheesy words to say about how you solve some problems in games.
