Reconnect Recap - w/e 26th of July
Reviewing the week that's been over on Reconnect
Hey team and welcome to a new week!
I’ve finally kicked my short addiction to mobile games and have returned to driving my car around an alien planet shooting things and running them over. Gaming for me these days is watching something great on TV whilst I play a mindless run-based games.
If you are new here, this is the Reconnect Recap, the companion newsletter for my website Reconnect. Whilst Reconnect aggregates nearly 300 different video game blogs and puts them all in one handy spot for you, the Recap is my curated pick of some of the highlights of the week delivered direct to your inbox every Tuesday. (Well Tuesday in my hemisphere).
This week on the recap, we’re talking Dinosaurs, emulation, Broadway, collectors items, and much much more.
Let’s dig in!

Great Write Ups
Violent Whiplash: Can’t put it any more simply than Nicshel who writes “It’s difficult to get lost in new game announcements while the industry continues to violate developers and consumers alike.”
DINO-BLADE: We all imagine the same thing right? When you hear the phrase ‘Dino-blade’, it’s universal, well TWIV has the backstory behind the viral animation and what its creator went on to do.
The best kind of Jam….: Is a game jam! Trip Harrison celebrates the net positive the jams our community participate in.
Paint it….Fortnite?: MusicEXP explains if they ‘got no satisfaction’ from the latest musical Fortnite collaboration.
Not a reset, an amputation: Jank.cool gives their opinion on the bloodbath happening at the big green company. Branding is definitely a key issue.
On and off broadway: Brian Crecente chats with Cliff Bleszinski of all people and discusses his escape from games to Broadway of all things, then his return.
PS5 on PC: Read Only Memo explains how the PS5 emulation scene is coming along.
Meh-joyment: degonyte talks of an important lesson that playing an average game can teach you.
Emerging Identity: Game Dev Assembly Editors often writes about the signals in the industry to pay attention to, this week was one I was musing about the other day, the way studios are becoming more intentional with their identity.
People Power: It should be obvious but gesturing wildly at Sony / Microsoft / Other AAA developers you can see that most of the industry does not value their people. This is why, as Path Oracle ExitLag writes, it’s important that Nintendo is wanting to keep salaries competitive.
Graded or Grating?: Eli M. writes about the
idiotsinvestors putting old games in graded boxes and trying to sell them for the cost of a small car.Talking Heads: The Video Game Storyteller discuses games that are just dying to tell you how to solve it’s own problems and asks, why?
Missed the point: Tim Biggs argues that reviewers misunderstood the point of the Steam Machine when reviewing it.

Does the DINO-BLADE article address the fact that the name “DINOSWORD” was right f*€£in’ there, but they went with “DINO-BLADE” instead?
Big up!
