Reconnect Recap - w/e 19th October
A weekly recap of some of the best video game articles to feature on Reconnect.
Kia Ora folks
This is probably the latest I’ve written the Recap before my deadline, I wish I could say it was due to legitimate circumstances like work or life but it I actually had the whole past week off work and I’ve just binge watching episodes of 911 whilst playing Ball X Pit 🤣.
As always this is another issue of the Reconnect Recap, your weekly newsletter recapping all the great articles that featured on Reconnect over the past week.
This week we’re covering off more game dev tips, some relaxing games, the Roger Ally, scary games, and yawning games.
Lets dig in.
Great Write Ups
So many balls: Like me, Laura Michet, has been playing a heap of Ball X Pit and has some amazing words about it.
Message through a tough time: Button Musher tells us about their immersive experience with Abeto Messenger, whilst they killed time in the ER waiting room.
T-pose thoughts: Lucas over at Superjump dives into to a T and asks the question, how does the game reflect how those with disabilities experience the world.
Some things to think over: Thinky Games is a site dedicated to puzzle games, their latest is a dive into some greats from the Next Fest.
Exterminate!: Did you know there was a Doctor Who video game? I didn’t. The Video Game Storyteller shows off the 2005 browser game all about fighting the infamous moving trash cans.
Venturing into thew wilds again: Preparing for the upcoming release, The Saved Game replays The Outer Worlds for the second time and shares their revised thoughts.
More news on the safest game on the planet: Given the risk that Roblox poses to our younger gamers, it’s promising that there are measures being put in place to curtail it, however Crossplay looks into what the Teen Council has accomplished. Spoiler Alert, not a lot.
Making Progress: Game Dev can be brutally hard and very time consuming, José Pérez shares their experience and provides some top tips.
Loosing sleep: We are all familiar with staying up late playing games, that’s me right now with Ball X Pit. The Pause Menu shares their experience with XCOM 2 causing late nights.
The new Xbox: I’ve been waiting for this with baited breath, The ROG Xbox Ally is in the hands of people and Brian Crecente tells us all about it. Not leaving my Steam Deck behind just yet, but if it broke tomorrow……
f for Scary: I don’t do scary games, even more so now after Reid McCarters words about the new Silent Hill title.
Yawning West: I normally don’t condone slander about my favourite game of all time, Red Dead Redemption 2, but The Homie Big Picture Mode makes a compelling contrast with Yakuza 0.
Genre Fail: Resident scientist, InGameScientist explains why game genres aren’t working, and what we should be doing instead.
