Preventing Data Miners from ruining a game
Coming May, Animal Well’s developer has another goal in mind. Keeping as much of the game a secret to surprise the player, which includes doing everything they can to prevent data miners from ruining it for everyone…
An Indie Direct
A streaming showcase about what games you should check out isn’t limited to just the big 3. We now have more independent groups adopting the format in a way that hopes to benefit both player and studio.
Pain is good?
I do not like challenging games, I’m not smart enough nor want to put in the time and effort but for many, its what drives them, and even more impressive are the developers who have to come up with these mechanics. This article on Superjump dives right into how these mechanics are forged.

That something extra I promised….
Much to my chagrin, it turns out that my friends who claim they are sensitive to frame rates and I thought they were being a touch fragile, were right.
In a recent study, it was found that some people do have the ability to detect the change in lights flashing over 60 times a second, whilst others do not.
You can read more about the study here, however, I now need to evaluate my life choices as I’ve been very judgemental of my friends whinging about frame rates, especially when they die in a game……
Bonus: Able Gamers Gala
By the time you read this the 2nd Annual Able Gamers Gala will be over, but I wanted to shed some light on this event, and hopefully peak your interest in next years event.
The Able Gamers movement is an inclusive charity built around helping gamers who may struggle to play games or feel isolated from gaming due to disability. The charity champions improving accessibility in games, enabling more disability friendly game mechanics and hardware, and improving connectedness amongst the community.
If you can, you can donate to the charity at any point (donations are deductible on your taxes fyi) and feel free to follow them on socials and share their work. Also keep an eye out for next year’s Gala.

Cheating has helped me enjoy gaming more
I’m a gamer with very specific tastes, mainly I like space games, but not horror, so I don’t get a lot of games that are made for me that often, and I’m fine with that, I’m quite a busy person. But as someone who spends a lot of my time consuming media I can quickly fall for the hype of a game and on my weaker days or a steam sale, I end up purchasing games that I don’t end up enjoying.
How they patched bugs in the GameBoy era
Bugs can be resolved relatively easy these days, provided you are connected to the internet, but back before Game Consoles connected to the World Wide Web, resolving a bug was a lot harder. In some cases it resulted in a recall of the game, in others players, could get a refund and a reprinted bug-free version of the game was then put on the market. Of course their were plenty of times when nothing was done.
