Welcome readers to your weekly issue of the Reconnect Recap, where I share some of the articles on Reconnect that caught my eye. I’ll also share an additional thing or two that I think you might like.
Talking about hardware
This week I'm covering articles that focus around gaming hardware, but the not the normal stuff, no Nintendo Switch, Playstation or Xbox here. The niche stuff, and it has nothing to do with the fact that I really want to buy a Playdate and can't justify that expense right now. 😭
A new Miyoo Mini is coming
I just love this new world we are living in where emulation consoles are a strong industry with lots of competition, because that means we get lots of variety. That variety means we get lots of cool looking devices that take inspiration from old portable hardware, mainly the GameBoy, and I’m a sucker for the GameBoy. I own both an Original and the Micro.
Which is why this new A30 just looks gorgeous to me, its a nods to the Advanced, the Micro, and the SNES are perfect and I would buy one of these just to own, and probably never play.
You can read more about what Mr Brendon Bigley on Wavelengths has to say about it here.
A look into the Ayn Odin 2
Master Brendon Bigley strikes again with his hands on the Ayn Odin 2, another emulation console. Whilst the Milo’s give GameBoy vibes, the Ayn’s try and go for that Switch / PSP aesthetic and again that’s what I love the most. Given stupid amounts of money, I’d be buying these and just displaying them, don’t actually play a lot of retro games.
If you are interested in reading more about Sir Brendon’s experience with the device check out the article here.
Papers Please needed a crank….
As I mentioned at the top, I really want a Playdate right now. Enter stage left, The Indie Informer, with their article about a game they say is the best on the console, and from a renown developer. This is not helping me with my fomo.
Lucas Pope, famed developer of papers please has released Mars after Midnight, and you can read the Informers honest, but compelling piece, here.
That something extra I promised….
Sticking with the theme of physicality, I stumbled across this blog where the owner , Thomas Cannon, has acquired some cool Transit Cards that look like Famicon Cartridges. Just a short video available on Thomas’s site but they look so cool.
Reconnect Recap articles
This week I published my first paid article about EA’s. TLDR: EA claims AI will fix all their troubles, and then I point out all their many historic failures and how AI would have saved none of them. A bit of a ranty article.
